Fancy Seeing You Here [F]

Roderich was at the park again. He'd located a bench earlier in the week that he preferred. It was along the edge of the pond where he could see across the water, and still be in the shade of some trees. The seat was close enough to the main path that he was able to quietly observe the humans on their daily jaunts. He was glad it was warming up, it meant more people were about, and since they were the reason he was here he was more than glad to see them out.

His violet eyes scanned the path as he leaned back on the bench, one elegant hand resting on the violin case at his side. He closed his eyes and let the sounds around him sweep over him, brushing his thoughts aside. One eyebrow arched as he heard a step behind him, accompanied by a rather familiar aura, "I didn't realize you'd been assigned here."

"Perhaps not, but usually there's a reason for one of you to be in a particular town. Though with you I suppose I shouldn't be surprised...." He glanced down at his clothes and then at the other, "You're not much better. You look like you stepped out of a sewing catalog from the Jazz Age."

Roderich's lips quirked upwards into a smirk. "True, but I like my suits like this, as much as it makes me stand out. Some people like it. Many think it's odd, but they figure that anyway with the instrument case." He glanced at the other, "So what have you been up to for the last century and a half? Or has it been longer?"

The Seraph shrugged slightly, "Angelic things." Mostly. "Spending time down here when I can, as per usual."

Roderich grimaced at the cigarette smoke, "Depends on what you would call excitement. Had a few narrow misses with some people I was supposed to be protecting during a couple of wars."

Roderich waved a hand in front of his face to clear away some of the scent. "I suppose 'War' isn't what they're calling one of them, but the Second World War and one of the 'conflicts' immediately following it. I don't recall exactly which, they blur together in my mind."

"And, not that there ever was but, all civility has gone down the drain. The entire world has been on the brink of a war that could wipe out their entire race for years. It seems to have simmered down some at least."

Roderich shook his head, "I actually had to give up this get up for a while. Looking out of place was not a good plan at that point in time. I still haven't sorted the exact cause behind it, but I suppose they haven't either..."

"A basic suit, like everyone else. It was dreadfully dull, and there weren't enough layers to it when it got too cold or too hot."

Roderich grimaced, "Those coats are an affront to good taste." He glanced at the demon, "I don't know that I'd put it that way..."

"Perhaps a bit closer. But, yes, if you must know. I'm still doing penance on and off for them. There's just something about humans, you know?"

The auburn-haired angel rolled his eyes, "You are insufferable, you know that?"

"You approached me, not the other way around, Memphis." The seraph remarked, dryly. "And I only wish the barb cut as far as your theatrics would sarcastically imply."
